Grand Canyon Conservancy - Artist in Residency
Grand Canyon Conservancy
As an Artist in Residence with the Grand Canyon Conservancy, I spent several weeks living and working on the South Rim, creating textile artwork inspired by the landscape, geology, and people who visit the canyon. Being a textile artist who works with salvaged materials, I was drawn to the canyon's layers, history, and immense sense of time.
During my time in the park, I hiked below the rim to Havasupai Gardens, Phantom Ranch, and the Colorado River. Experiencing the canyon from within its layers gave me a deeper appreciation for its scale, beauty, and complexity. The changing colors, textures, and formations influenced both my artwork and the way I thought about time, resilience, and connection to place.
Throughout the residency, I created a series of circular weavings inspired by the canyon's rings, strata, and natural patterns. These included several small and medium-scale works as well as a large circular weaving measuring seven feet in diameter. Working with reclaimed fibers and textiles, I explored ideas of geology, memory, and interconnectedness.
I also led public circular weaving activities for visitors of all ages. Using cardboard looms, yarn, and simple weaving techniques, participants created their own small weavings while reflecting on the layers of the canyon and their own personal stories. These gatherings encouraged people to slow down, make something with their hands, and connect with one another through creativity.
The residency deepened my understanding of the relationship between art, nature, and community. Living alongside wildlife—watching deer rest outside my residence, seeing an elk outside my kitchen window, and observing squirrels moving through the trees—was a daily reminder that I was a guest in a much larger ecosystem.

Caldera Artist in Residence
Caldera Arts Center
The Caldera Artists in Residence (AiR) program is a multidisciplinary residency based in Central Oregon that offers artists time, space, and support to develop their creative practice in direct relationship with the natural environment. The program brings together artists working across different disciplines and career stages for short-term residencies in a forested campus on the rim of a volcanic caldera.
During my residency at Caldera, I focused on expanding my practice of circular weaving, working at a larger scale than I had previously attempted. The circular form is central to my work because it reflects cycles, continuity, and the way experiences return and transform over time. Working at a larger scale also slowed my process and allowed me to respond more directly to the landscape and environment around me.
One of the pieces I created is titled El Ojo (“The Eye”). This work is about observation and awareness. I was thinking about how attention changes what we notice in the world—the movement of wind, shifts in light, and subtle changes in the land. The circular structure became a way to hold that act of looking, like a lens gathering and focusing experience.
Another piece, Búho (“Owl”), comes from a dream I had during the residency. In the dream, an owl and a hawk moved through a landscape filled with tension between natural and industrial spaces. I translated that imagery into layered textiles and color, focusing on the feeling of the dream rather than a literal scene. For me, the owl represents intuition and listening to inner vision as part of the creative process.
The third work, The Basin, was inspired by the Caldera landscape, especially the burnt forest and its textures. I was moved by the charred trees, open spaces, and the sense of renewal after fire. Through weaving, I worked with these impressions to reflect cycles of destruction, resilience, and regeneration.
Together, these pieces reflect my response to place, memory, and observation. Working in a short residency period, textiles allow me to hold fragments of experience—colors, textures, and impressions—and carry them forward through material form.

Rostros Solo Exhibition
Umpqua Valley Arts - Gallery II
1624 W Harvard Ave.
Roseburg, Oregon 97471Opening Reception: Friday, January 17th | 4-7 PM
The Rostros exhibition
The Rostros are a series of abstract textile portraits that depict individual faces. In addition to anatomical features like mouths, noses, ears, and hair, the Rostros are patterned with what could be perceived as wrinkles, scars, or tattoos — records of their lived experiences, origins, tribal affiliations. Their corresponding environmental backgrounds help explain how the Rostros live in the world. They look directly at the viewer with open eyes, telling stories of where they came from, and where they are going.
The Rostros artworks are made entirely from salvaged fabrics and found objects that have origin stories of their own: woven traditionally-loomed fabric from Oaxaca, scraps from Oregon mills, and second-hand salvage from friends. The infinite combinations possible from the myriad textile elements reflect the many ways our history, environment, and random events combine to create who we are.
Viewers may be surprised to find in the chaotic assemblages of the Rostros, faces that look familiar, friends or family they recognize, or possibly a reflection of themselves.

About the Chalecos Protector exhibition
The Chalecos Protector (Protective Vests) are vibrant wearable textile artworks that tell stories and offer protection. Each vest is a unique refuge depicting mythical heroines and others finding balance in the midst of conflict, disorder and darkness. The vests serve as physical armor against chaotic external elements. They incubate a deep sense of protection — understanding origin, examining identity, and acknowledging vulnerability.
The Protective Vests document periods of personal breakthrough, summoning strength, and discovering refuges during challenging times. When the world feels closed and we turn inward, the vests are a sanctuary.
The Protective Vests assembled in this space together form ramparts of power and peace, a fortification against fear. You are invited to surround yourself with their protection, to feel brave as we regroup.
Listen to the stories the vests tell — of heroines, nature, rain, trees, animals, dreams, and magic. Transcend conflict, injury, pollution, fire, and mortality within the shelter of the Chalecos Protector.

Sitka Center for Art and Ecology
Otis, Oregon
I had the honor of attending a three month residency on the Oregon coast at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. It's a beautiful place where the Salmon River meets the Pacific Ocean. My first residency. As much as I looked forward to having this time to focus on developing my artwork, and be inspired by the natural landscape, it was the relationships formed with the other residents that had the biggest impact on me. Immersion in a collaborative atmosphere with writers, photographers, musicians and scientists from around the world opened me up to new perspectives.
This concentrated eclectic community was a special opportunity for me to understand and witness how my own unique stories, experience, artwork, and self have the power to directly influence and uplift the stories and practices of those around me — my community. And in exchange, I allowed my practice to be shaped by them.
A resident biologist’s efforts to save the spring Chinook found them swimming through my piece Salmon Year. A trip together to the Chachalu Museum and Cultural Center in Grande Ronde, and a private meeting with tribal elders informed Plumas (Feathers). The breathtaking ecology of the Oregon Coast as experienced by our temporary community is captured in my Cascade Head and Wapiti (Elk) artworks.
