This piece depicts the gentle flight of ginkgo leaves. They fall directly into place, in a harmonious order. The soft two-colored circles behind each leaf show the duality of day and night. The four-colored sun above warms the leaves all year.
This textile artwork, created with yarn braids, rainbow-colored weaving, and embedded feathers, explores personal transformation. The piece began before a trip, with the central figure shown in a state of hope. After an insect bite and vivid dreams of flowers growing from my head, I reworked the composition to reflect change sparked by a fleeting moment. The final figure captures a layered emotional journey—one of physical impact, dream symbolism, and inner growth—expressed through color, texture, and form.
This commissioned textile artwork was created for the low-rent apartments in Rockwood, Gresham, as a symbol of resilience and community. Using salvaged fabrics and layered stitching, it reflects the vibrant stories of residents—each thread representing hope, migration, and survival. The piece honors the strength found in shared spaces and the quiet dignity of those building new lives. Inspired by local landscapes and cultural diversity, it invites viewers to see beauty in the overlooked and value in every thread.
It was an honor making this piece.
